Dizziness

Dizziness

Dizziness can be a disconcerting problem and very disabling, but fortunately its origin is rarely from serious pathology. Physiotherapy treatment can be extremely effective for people who suffer from a multitude of dizziness disorders whose symptoms may include vertigo (an illusion of movement), unsteadiness, poor balance, visual problems, nausea and neck pain or headache. These symptoms are frequently accompanied by fatigue, a reduced ability to concentrate, anxiety and an impaired ability to work or socialise.

Because of the number of different causes of dizziness, treatment needs to be tailored toward both the individual’s diagnosis and their particular presentation; but as a general rule, if symptoms are provoked by particular movements, positions or activities (eg looking up, turning in bed, walking or computer use), then individualised rehabilitation programs tend to be effective and there is strong evidence to support their use.
